Protect your skin as the summer sun shines

Ever had a bad sunburn? Spent time in the sun with no sunscreen? Here are some tips to avoid overexposure to the sun and to keep your skin healthy from the Skin Cancer Foundation:

  • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours or after excessive sweating or swimming.
  • Examine your skin head-to-toe every month.
  • See a physician every year for a professional skin exam.

Your onsite clinic can help you check and monitor your skin. In addition to skin checks, you can get an annual wellness exam to make sure your body is functioning at its best. Head over to my.aa.com for a list of clinic locations, hours and phone numbers to make your appointment.
