Better health from knowing your numbers

You keep a fair share of numbers in your head – phone numbers, banking PINs, birthdays, and tons more. But there are a few other numbers you should keep track of to monitor your overall health. The American Heart Association recommends that you be aware of five key metrics:

  • Total Cholesterol
  • HDL (good) Cholesterol
  • Blood Pressure
  • Blood Sugar
  • Waist Measurement

These numbers are important because they will allow you and your healthcare providers to determine your risk for developing potentially serious conditions.

All U.S.-based American Airlines team members and covered spouses can learn their numbers through a quick and easy biometric screening. Screenings are provided at no cost through any onsite clinic, any scheduled onsite screening event, any LabCorp or through your own provider. Eligible team members and spouses will even earn $100 in Wellness Rewards after completing a screening. Learn your health numbers by scheduling a biometric screening today.

A doctor who is with you always

When you aren’t feeling well, you can connect with a doctor over live video through Doctor On Demand which is available whenever and wherever you need care – 365 days a year, 24/7.

If you’ve never had an appointment over video before, you may wonder how it works. Just like an in-person visit, the doctor takes your history and symptoms, performs an exam and may recommend treatment – including prescriptions and lab work. Doctor On Demand physicians can treat a wide variety of the most common health conditions including:

  • Cold & Flu
  • Sinus Infections
  • Headaches & Migraines
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Cough & Congestion
  • Sore Throat
  • Diarrhea
  • UTIs and More

Doctor On Demand is included as part of your American Airlines medical benefits. Team members, spouses, and dependents enrolled in the Standard, Value, or PPO 80/90/100 medical options will pay a $20 copay for a visit; those in the Core option will pay the full cost until the deductible has been met, then 20% coinsurance. If you haven’t already, download the Doctor on Demand app from the App Store/Google Play or text: AMERICAN to 68398 for a download link.

Applications now open for the revamped Naturally Slim program

American’s Naturally Slim Program is now accepting applications from all U.S.-based mainline team members through April 13. Dependents 18 and over covered in an American Airlines medical plan are also eligible to apply. The upcoming class, beginning on April 30, features a completely revamped program, with shorter, personalized lessons allowing you to customize your weight loss journey. Naturally Slim is a mindful-eating program that helps you change how you eat instead of what you eat. It is not a diet, and as you lose weight, you also improve your health by reducing your chances of having serious, chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and more.

The program begins on April 30, but space is limited so you must complete the online application by April 13.

Take time to unwind – April is stress awareness month

Work demands, financial pressures, family problems, and many other factors can cause stress. While you can’t always avoid stress, you can minimize the adverse effects of it by changing how you choose to respond.

If you want to work on ways to manage your stress, you can connect with the Optum Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP can provide support when you and your family are faced with change, challenges or crisis. All team members and members of their household have free and confidential access to the EAP and all the available services, anytime you need them. When you call the EAP at 800-363-7190, a specialist will help you get connected with someone who has the appropriate experience to help. You can also access help and information online anytime you need it. We even offer onsite EAP specialists at larger locations. Visitmy.aa.com/eap to learn more.
